December 28th, 2012 - The Floor, Stringer

I prepped the main stringer today, fixed end caps to it and added a 1-1/2 inch PVC pipe from the bow to the bilge. Next I glassed in the stringer and got it ready for the new floor. When dry, I foamed in the area with expandable foam.

More work on the floor today. I scraped all of the old fiberglass out of the way in preparation for a new floor.

November 28th, 2012 - The Baja

I bought a Baja 16SS today to get the Mercury 900, 90HP Outboard. I am going to use it for the lower unit to repair my 1150 lower unit. After seeing the seats, I decided that this is what is going to go in the Checkmate as well. The boat has been sold already, minus the parts that I wanted.

November 10th, 2012 - More Cleaning

Today I pulled the Mercury 1150 off of the Transom. The transon seems to be in great shape and will not be rebuilt. I also washed the boat and saw that the paint is going to be saved.

Time to pull the carpet up and see what is under it all. The front is gone and I now find out that the main cabin floor is gone as well.

October 19th, 2012 - Initial Cleanup

Well, I got the Tri Mate home and started my initial inspection and cleanup. The Mercury 1150 will need a trim/tilt unit and some lower unit work at least. Seats will be needed all around and I am not quite sure what the driver/passenger seat look like yet. The front floor is rotted out for sure and the main cabin is most likely rotted out as well. The paint looks to be in good enough shape that it will probably just be buffed out, not painted.

October 18th, 2012 - Picked up the Trimate in Clintonville, WI

I picked up a 1979 Checkmate Trimate II on a Calkins roller trailer. The boat is in tough shape with the interior shot. The floor in the open bow is rotted and will need to be replaced. Not sure about the main cabin, but I am guessing it will be the same. There aren't any seats in the main cabin area. There are seats up front but they will need to be rebuilt. It also came with a 1978 Mercury 1150 115HP outboard. It is not the original motor. The power trim and tilt is missing and it appears that the lower unit needs to be repaired but it has great compression and a good spark so I am hoping it will run well when the time comes.

Hooked up and ready to go
